SUMMARY:C&S Series: Meal Plan Your Way to Better Health
DESCRIPTION:Join Leah M. Webb\, author and garden consultant\, for a 6-month garden and wellness series at Cup & Saucer in downtown Brevard\, NC. We’ll meet on the last Saturday of every month\, 4:00 – 5:30pm\, at The Mercantile for learning and community-building around gardening and wellness. Classes begin in January and end in June. See schedule below. \nMeal Plan Your Way to Better Health: When Leah learned that her son had severe food allergies and that her daughter had cystic fibrosis\, she knew that a healthy diet would play an integral part of her children’s care. But learning to get organized in the kitchen amidst life’s busyness felt like an impossible task. Leah slowly learned to master the art of meal planning and prep using bulk shopping\, freezing foods\, and planning. Her techniques are effective enough for those needing to follow the strictest of diets\, but easy enough for those who don’t necessarily love to cook or plan\, but also understand the importance of home cooked meals. Leah will provide an overview of the techniques that have enabled her to spend a minimal amount of time in the kitchen while serving her family as many made-from-scratch meals as she can. \nEvery ticket includes a beverage of your choice from Cup and Saucer. Choices include (but are not limited to) tea\, coffee\, speciality coffee drinks\, wine\, or beer. Additional beverages and food are available for purchase. Please arrive at 4pm so that we can be seated and ready to start by 4:15pm. \nSliding Scale Cost: $35\, $40\, $45/person \nRegister here \n  \n6-Month Gardening and Wellness Series Schedule: \n\nJan 25: Belly Biochemistry\nFeb 22: Regenerative Growing Practices for the Home Gardener\nMarch: 29: Backyard Greenhouse Growing\n*April 5: Raised Bed Gardening for the beginner offered at Leah’s house!*\nMay 31: Building the Backyard Homestead\nJune 28: Meal Plan Your Way to Better Health\n\nEmail Leahmariewebb@gmail.com for more payment options or questions.

We’ll meet on the last Saturday of every month\, 4:00 – 5:30pm\, at The Mercantile for learning and community-building around gardening and wellness. Classes begin in January and end in June. See schedule below. \nBuilding the Backyard Homestead: Building a highly productive homestead is best accomplished using incremental steps that increase your workload and skillset overtime. Leah will discuss the seven stages and corresponding inputs she’s used to slowly build her diverse homestead using no-dig\, no-till\, deep organic practices that are applicable for both rural and urban settings. Her own homestead was built on just three quarters of an acre in an urban community and started with just a few beds. She slowly expanded to include berries and fruit trees\, perennial crops\, four season growing\, storage crops\, and eggs. Participants will learn how to dream big while setting realistic and achievable homesteading goals. \nNote: This class is based on Leah’s book\, The Seven-Step Homestead. Copies will be available for sale. \nEvery ticket includes a free beverage of your choice from Cup and Saucer. SUMMARY:Raised Bed Gardening Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Have you been wanting to start your own garden but just aren’t sure how to get started? What materials will you use and where will you purchase them? How do you fill the raised beds? And then what? How in the world are you supposed to get started?! \nIf you’ve had any of these thoughts\, I’ve designed a comprehensive\, full day workshop with YOU in mind! \nMuch of my gardening success can be attributed to the way I start my beds. I implement deep organic\, regenerative practices that build some of the healthiest soils you can find. I’ll show you exactly how to implement \nWhat You’ll Get\nIn this full day workshop\, I’ll not only show you HOW to get started but I’ll be supplying everything you need to actually do it! Every participant with leave with: \n \n\n2 cedar raised bed kits (dimensions: 4′ x 8′ x 1′)\nAll cedar boards are pre-drilled for ease of assembly\nLag screws and a T40 bit are included\nHardware cloth to cover the bottom of the bed for rodent protection\n*Bagged\, organic soil and compost to fill the beds\nA full day workshop in Leah’s garden\nFertilizers to improve soil nutrition\nA copy of Leah’s book\, The Seven-Step Homestead\nComplete lists telling you what to plant\, when to plant it\, and where to buy it\nWisdom gained from 22 years of Leah’s successes and failures\n\n*NOTE: We’ll be implementing a sheet mulching technique that requires you to fill the bottom 2/3 of your bed with organic matter. This technique improves soil health over time and saves you money when first filling your beds. The amount of soil and compost provided with the class will NOT completely fill your beds. \nJust a few of the topics we’ll cover include:\n\nHow to assemble and place your 2 new raised beds\nVole\, rodent\, and insect protection strategies\nSheet mulching strategies to build healthy soil and save money\nFertilizers to accelerate the soil building process\nLong term soil building strategies\nKnowing when to plant what and how to do it\nKnowing where to buy plants and seeds\nWatering and irrigation strategies\nTroubleshooting when something doesn’t go as expected\nMaximizing production throughout the year\nSelecting crops for the cooler months\n\nWhy These Beds?\n \nIf you’ve ever searched online for cedar bed kits\, you’ll find flimsy kits built from 1″ thick cedar boards\, costing hundreds of dollars. They’re simply not built to last. I’m offering insanely sturdy beds built from 2″ thick cedar boards sourced from a mill in Nashville. Each bed has a minimal number of joints and therefore fewer areas that are susceptible to rot. Each bed can easily last 10 years and can be assembled with a few simple tools. Our design is meant for those who want a chemical-free\, practical\, long-lasting cedar bed that will provide their family with years of vegetable production and enjoyment. \nWhy This Soil and Compost?\nI like to say that gardeners aren’t growing plants; they’re growing good soil. A healthy\, happy growing medium is the key to a bountiful garden! I’ll be sharing my “secret formula” that has proven successful again and again\, and I’ll show you exactly how to use the included compost and soil to maximize production. \nCourse Registration\nSpace for this class is limited; your spot is not secure until payment has been received in full. Refunds are not available. Each registration includes 2 raised beds; additional beds are available for a reduced cost. Our cedar raised bed kits are usually $295 each but are being offered to class participants for $265 each. Additional compost is available for $115/bed. Please indicate on your registration form if you’d like to purchase more than 2 beds at the class participant discounted rate. \nDelivery note: The cedar beds are not assembled for ease of transportation but they’re heavy (approximately 180 pounds each – this is big\, sturdy lumber!) The compost to fill 2 beds weighs approximately 1\,000 lbs. The total weight of your materials is right around 1\,400 pounds. If you don’t have a 1/2 ton truck or a small trailer\, I’m offering delivery within 15 miles of Brevard for an additional $50. Please indicate if you need supplies delivery on your registration form. \nYour Investment: $950\nREGISTER HERE \n

SUMMARY:C&S Series: Regenerative Practices for the Home Gardener
DESCRIPTION:Join Leah M. Webb\, author and garden consultant\, for a 6-month garden and wellness series at Cup & Saucer in downtown Brevard\, NC. We’ll meet on the last Saturday of every month\, 4:00 – 5:30pm\, at The Mercantile for learning and community-building around gardening and wellness. Classes begin in January and end in June. See schedule below. \nRegenerative Practices for the Home Gardener: Regenerative growing practices pull carbon and other greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere and draw them into the soil where they can be stored for hundreds and even thousands of years. Increasing carbon in your soil improves nutrient and water retention\, improves drainage\, reduces reliance on agricultural inputs\, and ensures that home gardeners are growing some of the most nutritiously dense foods available. Regenerative techniques are often discussed when referencing large farms\, but these same techniques (and more!) can be easily applied in backyard gardens. Come learn about the factors affecting soil health\, why carbon storage is so important\, and how to use naturally occurring soil processes to enhance soil nutrition. \nEvery ticket includes a beverage of your choice from Cup and Saucer.
